On Her Master's Secret Service gives fans of Lexi's Masters and Mercenaries series a chance to not only learn the history between Alex and Eve but also witness each of them come to the realizations necessary to allow them both to heal. Their road to recovery is as touching as their past is brutal. {Of note: there are rape triggers} Eve's brutal attack, the reason behind her strict contract with Alex over the past five years, was hard to read. However, watching her grow stronger and embrace her survivorship helped soothe some of the pain. Revenge was all he had left. Alex, so consumed by his guilt and an obsessive need for revenge, lost sight of his sub and partner's needs. But, having not yet realized this for himself, he jumps at the opportunity to catch the man who tore them apart. Of course, his timing could not be worse. Eve is slowly beginning to realize she'd like more when Alex is off hunting yet again. To make sure that she's there to watch his back, she, along with the help of the other Masters and their subs, puts a plan in place that Alex will be unable to stop unless he's willing to back out of the op altogether. The boys create an op based on information received from an outside source. While the boys are not entirely sure this source can be trusted, she wins them over with her tenacity. She is a strong character driven by her need to do good. As the story unfolds, Lexi drops hints throughout as to who this woman really is - did you catch them or were you surprised at the end? I cannot wait to learn more about her story and that of her mysterious and wicked Dom.When we as readers become attached to previous characters, it's always a joy when authors include them in another book. This installment reunites readers with all of the couples, however I would have liked to have seen more of Jake and Serena. The gang pulls together, as expected, to support and encourage Alex and Eve's healing and rediscovery. ... a delicate dance of trust and love and pleasure. Admittedly, it took me awhile to get comfortable with Lexi's writing, but I am now a big fan. I am all-in. I love these characters and cannot wait to learn more about Ian, Simon, the new "puppy" (recently "adopted" into the gang) and more.
