Twice Bitten (Chicagoland Vampires Series #3)

Twice Bitten - Chloe Neill Twice Bitten is 3rd in the Chicagoland Vampires series, so some series spoilers may exist.Reading Order:Some Girls Bite Friday Night Bites Twice BittenThe shifters are here, the shifters are here! In Twice Bitten, Ethan is prepping Merit for her bodyguard detail of the alpha, Gabriel. This job gives her (and us) a unique opportunity to learn more about the mysterious shifter community. See, the shifters in Merit's world are not bitten, they are pure magic with a painless shift. How cool would that be?! No job can be an easy one though, as everyone learns that someone is gunning for Gabriel. Could it be because he doesn't want the community to retreat, but stay where they are even if it means coming out to the public with the vampires? I enjoyed this one much more than #2, Friday Night Bites. Merit is coming into her own a bit, she's determined to mend fences with her BFF, Mallory and the tension, and heat, continue rise between Merit and Ethan.Readers are rewarded with a YAY! moment, as Merit finally gives in to Ethan. Merit makes it perfectly clear to Ethan that is all or nothing. There's no 1/2 way with her. He's in 100% or she's not in at all. (WTG, Merit!) For one glorious day and 1/2 night, they are the couple you know they are meant to be. But, typical!, Ethan starts to second guess their dating relationship when he reacts like a possessive mate during a shifter event. He basically over-reacted and could have dramatically harmed the fragile relationship they, the vamps, are in the process of forming with the shifters. However, Gabriel realizes why Ethan reacted the way he did, his love for Merit, and forgives the incident. Afterward, Ethan over-reacts again by immediately, and rather harshly, breaking it off with Merit. He's convinced, without even trying, that they cannot have a sexual relationship while maintaining a good working relationship.I was so torn when Ethan broke it off with Merit. I could see where his mind was and it's obvious where his heart is - with her, but damn, that was HARSH! MAJOR, major kudos to Merit for standing her (sometimes quaking) ground when he, predictably, starts to reconsider his decision. She doesn't give in, as you might've thought, she reminds him it was his decision and she made it clear - all or nothing, one time offer. I wonder if he can/will do his time in the dog house and win back her trust.I will most definitely be continuing on with this series. If you love hot, kick-ass vamps, sexy shifters and bitchen battles, you are sure to enjoy this series.
