I always enjoy reading about the LOTU. The Darkest Whisper is about Sabin, the Keeper of Doubt, and his struggle with his mate, Gwen, or "Gwendolyn the Timid" as she calls herself. After losing the love of his life Darla, who he stole from Stefano (2nd in command of the Hunters - under Galen), to suicide because of his demon, Doubt, he has refused to ever fall in love again. But, as always, it's love at first sight for these two, it just takes a while for them both to admit it. Gwen is a harpie, a great new sup addition to the series. Harpies have superior fighting power, but Gwen's power takes her over and she's yet to find control. We meet Gwen's sisters, harpies with shape shifting fathers: Kaia, Bianka & Taliyah. They aren't thrilled about Gwen's new beau, but are willing to stick around and help fight the hunters. They are also long lost friends of Anya, Goddess of Anarchy, Luciens' mate. Gwen believes her father to have been an angel.I love how Sabin is able to threaten his demon by mentioning returning him to the box. He is aware of the harm his demon can cause those around him, using it when he's in battle is one thing, but tries to keep Doubt on a short leash always apologizing when he slips free making others question their feelings, actions, etc.We also get to see more into the lives of his "brothers-by-circumstance": Amun, the Keeper of Secrets, who always remains silent for fear "the terrible secrets he'd gleaned over the centuries would spill from him if he dared utter a single word" takes on more secrets and struggles to hold them inside. Paris, the Keeper of Promiscuity, is becoming dependent on ambrosia to deal with his lost love, Sienna. Cameo, the Keeper of Misery, and Torin, the Keeper of Disease, explore their friends-with-benefits, of sorts, relationship. Torin "has to be the only millennia-old virgin in history". He spots a beauty with pointed ears on his monitor (he never leaves the fortress out of fear) and she intrigues him. Hopefully we'll see more of Torin in future releases. Aeron, the Keeper of Wrath, is determined to repay Paris for what he did for him. Legion, the little demon from hell, remains his constant companion. They bring each other comfort, in a father/daughter sort of way. Lots more on Gideon, the Keeper of Lies, and his struggle with always having to lie so that his friends understand him, never being able to say the things he wants to without the pain of telling the truth. He "couldn't tell a single truth without soon wishing he were dead, his entire body wrapped in agony and riddled with suffering." He suffers greatly in this book, doing all he can to help his brothers and their fight against Galen, the Keeper of Hope, who is leading the Hunters. Maddox and Ashlyn, who is still pregnant, Lucien and Anya, who cracks me up and Reyes and Danika, the All-Seeing-Eye, have a few appearances as well.William, Anya's long time friend she loves to hate, cracks me up. He has small appearances, but they make you want to see more of him in the future. They continue their fight against the Hunters and their search for the remaining two artifacts: the Paring Rod and the Cloak of Invisibility (Harry Potter has it!! LOL). They have already found: the All-Seeing-Eye and the Cage of Compulsion.Cronus starts to reveal the reason for the LOTU's butterfly tattoo. "Before your possession, you were limited in what you could do, where you could go. Trapped in a cocoon, you could say. Now look at you ... you emerged as something dark but beautiful. That's why I would have chosen the mark, at least. My children, {the ones that marked the LOTU} well...". He's interrupted before he can finish with his explanation. Cronus has ordered Torin to find the other demons, ones that the LOTU were unaware of, but learned may exist in the last book. Will they help the Lords with their battle against the hunters or fight against them?So much packed into each of these books, they always leave me wanting more. Looking forward to The Darkest Passion!
